Position Title: Head Swim Coach

Location: Royal Melbourne Country Club
Reports To: Aquatics Director

Position Summary:
Royal Melbourne Country Club is seeking an energetic, organized, and member-focused Head Swim Coach to lead our competitive and developmental swim programs. This individual will be responsible for creating a positive, engaging, and safe environment for swimmers of all levels while building a strong team culture that aligns with the Club’s commitment to exceptional member experiences.

The Head Swim Coach will oversee all aspects of the swim team program, including coaching, practice planning, meet coordination, and communication with families and members.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Coaching:
  • Plan, organize, and lead all swim team practices for various age groups and skill levels.
  • Develop season training plans focused on skill development, conditioning, and sportsmanship.
  • Provide individualized coaching and constructive feedback to swimmers.
  • Foster a fun, inclusive, and competitive team environment.

Team & Meet Management:
  • Coordinate swim meet schedules, entries, and logistics.
  • Serve as primary point of contact during home and away meets.
  • Collaborate with league officials and other clubs as needed.
  • Ensure proper staffing and volunteer coordination for meets.

Staff Supervision:
  • Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches and junior coaches.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure alignment on coaching standards and expectations.
  • Promote a positive and professional team culture among coaching staff.

Member & Parent Communication:
  • Communicate regularly with parents and members regarding schedules, expectations, and team updates.
  • Address questions or concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Support member engagement through events, recognition, and team-building activities.

Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure all practices and meets adhere to safety standards and club policies.
  • Maintain required certifications (CPR, First Aid, Lifeguard Training as applicable).
  • Monitor pool safety in coordination with the Aquatics Director and lifeguard team.

Program Development:
  • Assist in growing participation in the swim program through clinics, lessons, and outreach.
  • Support additional aquatics programming as needed (private lessons, clinics, special events).
  • Contribute ideas to enhance the overall aquatics experience for members.

Qualifications:
  • Previous swim coaching experience required; head coaching experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of competitive swimming techniques, training methods, and meet operations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate swimmers of all ages.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguard certifications (or ability to obtain prior to start).
  • Positive, professional demeanor aligned with a private club environment.

Schedule & Availability:
  • Seasonal position (spring/summer), with potential for extended programming.
  • Availability for early morning practices, evenings, and weekends.
  • Required attendance at all scheduled swim meets and team events.

Compensation:
  • Competitive hourly or seasonal stipend based on experience.
